Weekly Reading Round-Up

Happy Friday, all!

I need to get back to the Team W chapter I’m working on, but wanted to pop in for just a moment to talk about this week’s books!

I started the week with Susan Elizabeth Phillips’s Dance Away With Me, in which a grieving widow moves to a remote rural cabin– but finds it isn’t quite so isolated as she expects when she gets entangled in the lives of the pregnant supermodel and alarmingly handsome internationally famous street artist living in a nearby renovated schoolhouse.

After that, it was back to the Middle Ages with Ellis Peters’s third Brother Cadfael mystery, Monk’s Hood.  I love how wonderfully sensible the characters in Cadfael tend to be.  No melodrama, just honest people caught in awful situations, trying to make their way through as best they can while Brother Cadfael untangles the mystery.

Right now, I’m treating myself to a book I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time: Alexis Hall’s new madcap romance, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake, about a single mother who stakes her hopes on a BBC baking competition.  I’ve only just started it, so more on that next week!

What have you been reading this week?

I read Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. It had me snorting and howling. Shades of Adrian Mole and Bertie Wooster! Lots of ARCs this week. Lizzie & Dante by Mary Bly.
The Night Hawks by Elly Griffiths
A Rogue’s Company by Allison Montclair

Continuing with the Captain Lacey series, Regency mysteries by Ashley Gardner, starting #10 today. Very well done mysteries with a broad cast of supporting characters who assist Cpt Gabriel Lacey in finding solutions to the different crimes–James Denis in particular adds a lot to the series.

I finished the first three Bridgerton books and can say I really hate Benedict Bridgerton, the star of the third book. Now I’m reading a book for book club called The Sunken Land Begins to Rise again, which is weird, there’s no plot, and everyone I “think” is turning into fish people a la H.P. Lovecraft… oh, and TONS of Water Babies references… My reward for getting through that is Pink 4!

I’m reading The Westminster Intrigue by Tracy Grant.

I’ve read the first Brother Cadfael and a prequel – need to get back to them.
