Weekly Reading Round-Up

You know how it is, when you recommend a book to a friend and then just have to re-read it yourself?  Well, that was me this week.

My best friend was looking for something like Ben Aaronovitch’s Rivers of London series or Laura Resnick’s Esther Diamond: smart and snarky and supernatural. And it belatedly occurred to me, of course! Daniel O’Malley’s The Rook, which checks all three of those boxes.

So, naturally, now I’m re-reading The Rook, and seriously contemplating a re-read of the sequel, Stiletto.

What have you been reading this week?

I read Louise Penny’s latest. So good! Now I’m reading Sulari Gentill’s 1930s mystery series with Rowland Sinclair. Awesome!

Defy the Fates, the 3rd/final book in Claudia Gray’s Constellation trilogy, occupied my reading time this week. It’s such a satisfying series, very sad to let Abel & Noemi go!

You know the Rook has been made into a TV series that’s starting soon? I’ve been re-reading Good Omens for my book club, love me some Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett hi-jinks, next an ARC of the new Mercy Thompson book Storm Cursed! Oh… and Independent Bookstore Day is tomorrow and I’m hoping to pick up even more reads, but now we’re supposed to get 7″ of snow!

Been hooked on anything by Leigh Bardugo. I finished the Six of Crows duology, and I have now started her Shadow and Bone trilogy. The cool thing is, most of her books take place in the same universe: The Grishaverse.
