Weekly Reading Round-Up

Better late than never, I finally read Anthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders and loved the whodunnit within the whodunnit (especially the internal whodunnit, which was 1950s, small English village, so, basically, Father Brown without Father Brown).

Then I treated myself to Lynda Loigman‘s upcoming The Wartime Sisters, set at Springfield Armory during World War II, tracing the tangled relationship between two sisters– the smart one and the pretty one– and the way it all comes to a head during the war. As with The Two-Family House, the characters are so real and so realistically flawed that you can absolutely understand why they are the way they are and where they are– and you won’t want to stop reading until you figure out how they got there and how they’ll fix it. I may possibly have stayed on the subway a bit too long just to keep reading.

I have a big pile of new books to read, but it’s going to be very hard to top these two books!

    C.S. Harris’s newest Sebastian St. Cut mystery, Why Kill the Innocent? And I’m on a serious Georgette Heyer binge – The Nonesuch, Arabella, Cousin Kate, The Talisman Ring. It’s been a great reading week!

    Reading the amusing and entertaining “Trash n’ Treasures” mystery series by Barbara Allen. I am on number #4 “Antiques Bizarre” featuring the last Faberge egg. If interested read in order…the first one is “Antiques Roadkill”.

    Read The Sword and the Swan by Roberta Gellis (excellent, intriguing historical romance set in the time of troubles between King Stephen and Empress Maud in England) and today beginning Defy the Worlds by Claudia Gray (sooo much enjoyed first in series, Defy the Stars, last year!).

      I love Roberta Gellis. If you loved the Sword and the Swan, be sure to pick up Knight’s Honor, Bond of Blood and all the Roselynde Chronicles. They’re all interrelated and all terrific.

    Besides starting Why Kill the Innocent (reading with Betty), I finished Charles Finch’s Woman in the Water (terrific!) and am reading his very first a second time – A Beautiful Blue Death – I do love his books.
