This week, I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy of Jennifer Robson’s latest, Goodnight from London
Unlike her earlier books, this one moves forward to World War II, when an American journalist takes a job with a paper in London, covering the Blitz (and living through it). In the best sort of way, this book reminded me of Rilla of Ingleside

What have you been reading this week?
I’ve been sucked into the world of V.E. Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic. Regency England, parallel Londons, dark magic! About to finish the first in the trilogy and move onto the second! Just bought the third yesterday, so yes, this is my whole plan for the weekend.
In the middle of Alexander McCall Smith’s version of “Emma.” Just when I thought Mr. Woodhouse’s nuerosis couldn’t get any worse…they somehow managed to do so. Really enjoying The Austen Project!
I would love to read it. I adore this cover and have enjoyed her other novels.
I am in between books right now and can’t seem to decide which to read next.
I’ve never read a Jennifer Robson book. It looks interesting. I enjoy your books and if you’re recommending this one, I sure I would enjoy it.
I’m reading Winter Bloom by Tara Heavey and loving it.
I tried to read “The Sleepwalker” by Chris Bohjalian but just couldn’t get into it and returned it to the library.
I finished the latest Maisie Dobbs book, which was also set at the beginning of WWII. I’ve read all of Jennifer Robson’s books and I’m looking forward to this new one! Another good book about women in WWII is The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck. It’s about German women and very interesting to read something from that perspective!

Today I finished a cozy mystery that an author asked me to read. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. I hope to read A Bridge Across the Ocean this weekend.
I’m currently reading The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Goodnight from London sounds like it would make a great next read.
I’m reading The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel
I loved some non-fiction, Lost City of the Monkey God, very interesting, and a memoir called Lab Girl. Right now I am in the middle of C J Sansom’s Tudor mysteries, reading the third , Sovereign, and I think it is the best so far.
Beatriz Williams’ A Hundred Summers. It is so amazing! Her writing is beautiful! I have you to thank for getting me hooked on her!
Finally started on “Big Little Lies.” Six chapters in, & I’m hooked! The interview tidbits thrown into the narrative give it a commentary feel, and it’s helping me get to know the characters. That one’s my travel book, which I’ll need for Monday’s queue for “Mass Effect: Andromeda.” At home, I’m re-reading “The Gunslinger” by Stephen King. I was discussing it with a co-worker, & realized it has been almost 8 years since I read it last.

I just borrowed Big Girl: How I gave up dieting and got a life from the Library. It’ll be my weekend reading.
I loved Jennifer’s first series! Love anything set in London so definitely looking forward to reading this one!

Welll……..I love her books and want to win the latest, but I confess I’ve been reading North Carolina Genealogy and American Settlements and Migrations all week.
I loved Jennifer’s story in the Poppies anthology from last year!
I finished an ARC of Marie Force’s new book and am starting an ARC of Caroline Linden’s novella.
Work is busy…so my reading time is limited!

This week I reread Call the Midwife Book 1. I’ve been watching the PBS series with my mom and wanted to back to the source.

I’m reading “The Guests on South Battery” by Karen White. I love the Tradd Street series.

I finished ‘Elizabeth is Missing’ by Emma Healey today. So well written but a chilling read.
I am enjoying a re-read of ‘Remember Me’ by Sophie Kinsella.
Planning to start a new adventure series tomorrow with Scott Marion’s ‘The Alchemist’s Secret’ or could go for Curtis Stainfield’s ‘American Wife.’
For non-fiction, I am enjoying The Butcher, the Baker, and the Candlestick Maker’ which is a history of the UK through its census records. Pleasantly surprised when my ancestors made a guest appearance in the book.

I just finished listening to Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle, brilliantly read by Bernadette Dunne. It was wonderfully creepy.
Also working on Jodi Taylor’s A Symphony of Echoes, second in her Chronicles of St. Mary’s series, about time traveling historical researchers. It’s amazing.
I am reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal. Foodies who are quirky and a little sad. Hoping for a happy ending.
I have been reading Meredith Durans new book. I have love many different types of books.
I just finished A Good Time Coming by C.S. Harris, which is about the Civil War. It’s told from the perspective of a young girl in the Deep South. It’s more serious than the St. Cyr series but quite thought provoking and a grim reminder of the horrors of war.
Finished Sophie Kinsella’s newest, My Not So Perfect Life. It was adorable and I loved it! Also, The Book Thieves by Anders Rydell. Like The Monuments Men but with books. Very interesting but of course, tragic.
I’ve been reading Kristan Higgins’s On Second Thought. And reading the really good bits a second time.
Besides rereading Tracy Grant’s Malcolm and Suzanne Rannoch series, I am in the middle of The End of your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe, a wonderful memoir about his mother’s last months fighting cancer and how they formed their own personal book club in the process. I know it has a sad ending but it is so rich and warmly written it doesn’t matter. I heartily recommend it for everyone who is a book lover!
I am reading The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I just started it, but I was seriously laughing out loud while I was reading it at the doctor’s office.
I just finished I See You by Clare Mackintosh. A psychological thriller.
I’m reading That Summer. Absolutely love it. It’s conjuring up images of the English scenes from the movie The Holiday.

This week, I read a book (French), “14-14”, about two boys corresponding through a mysteriously magic box, one at the beginning of 1914 and the other in 2014.
It was very very good! I loved it!!

I went back to basics: Mary Stewart! Binging on her books-they’re re-released so I picked up nice new copies to replace my falling apart ones. Wildfire at Midnight, The Gabriel Hounds, The Moonspinners, Airs Above the Ground, Madam Will you Talk?-all favorites from years ago.
The Jennifer Robson book sounds like fun!
I’ve been re-reading Mary Stewart also. Her stories do not get old! Madam Will You Talk is a favorite!

Slowly but surely making my way through Miranda and Caliban by Jacqueline Carey. I have a new small person at home who has decided that sleeping during the night is not a necessary thing so I don’t have much time to read so the slow going is not the fault of the book!
I recently finished Blackout by Connie Willis and am ready to start All Clear.
I read Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carringer. I started reading the Finishing school series from the start having never read any Carriger before. It’s amazing and I love, love, love it!
