Contest #3: Pick That Tulip

Over the past decade, The Masque of the Black Tulip has made its way around the world, masking itself in a new cover for each new appearance.

US hardcover/ US paperback:

tulip_200 Black Tulip Cover

The UK/ French cover (which are surprisingly similar….):

blacktulipengland Black Tulip French

The German/ Dutch covers:

Black Tulip Germany Black Tulip Holland

The Russian/ Japanese covers:

Black Tulip Russia Black Tulip Japan

The Spanish/ Portuguese covers:

antifaztulipan Black Tulip Portugal

(I’ve only put them in pairs to save space on the page, not out of any grand, organizational scheme.)

Which one do you like best?

One person will be chosen at random to receive a signed copy of The Temptation of the Night Jasmine, because Henrietta likes that book. (She gets to give love advice. It’s kind of her thing.)

  5. Bridget Erin on February 17, 2016 at 11:09 am

Although they are all lovely, the US paperback holds the winning place in my heart.

  6. Shenandoah Strojek on February 17, 2016 at 11:09 am

The US hardcover is my absolute favorite! It was the first one I ever saw at my library when I started reading The Pink Carnation series and I fell in love. I was super sad I couldn’t buy that version at my bookstore.

  7. Amber on February 17, 2016 at 11:11 am

The US Hardcover all the way! 1: Because this is actually THE cover that got me into this series. I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover but I totally do when browsing and this cover made me pick it up. 2: Because it goes on a dang hardcover book which I strongly believe should always be available. Yes, I’m still upset the last several books are only available in paperback thus throwing my OCD into fits everytime I look at the series on my bookshelf.

  8. Caryn on February 17, 2016 at 11:17 am

    The German cover is gorgeous!

  32. Jackie on February 17, 2016 at 2:37 pm

The US hardback. The black mask and the tulip are the focu of the picture. I loved that it wasn’t focused on the lady’s face. It was unique and, like many, I wish the later books were in hardback and had a different style. Ah well. I have this one though and it’s lovely!

  33. Pat Dupuy on February 17, 2016 at 2:53 pm

I favor the US paperback, followed by the Russian cover. Somehow the style of the paintings just fits the mood.

  34. Amy on February 17, 2016 at 2:54 pm

U.S. hardcover, although I do like the French and Russian ones. I wish the later books had the same type of covers.

  40. holly on February 17, 2016 at 3:40 pm

The french cover, although I will always have a sentimental attachment to the U.S. cover

UK/German for aesthetics and US paperback for pure sentimentality!

  44. Mel B. on February 17, 2016 at 5:28 pm

I’m biased, since the US paperback edition of “The Masque of the Black Tulip” is where I began my Pink Carnation adventure many years ago; but the Russian cover is a new favorite!

  59. Lauren H on February 17, 2016 at 9:50 pm

Well, I am particularly fond of the US paperback cover as that is the one I own and have read to pieces, but I must say the UK/French covers are very striking.

  60. SuzanneH on February 17, 2016 at 9:57 pm

They are all lovely, but I still think the US paperback is my favourite. Such a beautiful painting.

  61. Teje Ellis on February 17, 2016 at 10:00 pm

I love, love the US paperback cover. You probably don’t remember, but I emailed you and asked the name of the painting. You sent a very kind reply and told me the name of the painting. That was my first interaction with an author. A nice moment for me. Thanks once again!

    • Lauren on February 21, 2016 at 8:14 pm

      You’re welcome, Teje! : )

Love the US paperback cover. Though the Dutch cover is very Henrietta to me. So fun!

  73. Natali Camacho on February 18, 2016 at 11:38 am

I really like the US paperback copy. It doesn’t give anything away of how the plot will develop! You never know what’s hidden underneath or what secrets people have!

  74. Trisha on February 18, 2016 at 11:41 am

I like the UK version the best.

The US paperback is by far my favorite! Beautiful!

  76. Kristin on February 18, 2016 at 4:02 pm

The UK cover is my favorite. It has a slight edge over the French cover for better text layout and not slicing off the top of the model’s head.

  77. Cyndy on February 18, 2016 at 4:40 pm

My favorite is the US paperback cover. I like a glimpse of what the heroine looks like. 🙂

    The US paperback!

  84. Maria on February 20, 2016 at 10:18 pm

I like the US paperback cover the best. The painting and the blue colors just seemed to fit for Henrietta as I picture her.

  85. Kimberly on February 21, 2016 at 8:51 am

I really like the German cover.

  86. Jane B. on February 21, 2016 at 4:28 pm

I like the German one because it captures the ominous tone of the book. There’s still plenty of humor in The Black Tulip, but for me it had more feeling of danger than the rest of the series.
They’re all pretty–but the Japanese one seems to have no connection at all to the book.
