Colin & Eloise Wedding Week: the Dress
When we rejoin Eloise in the first chapter of Pink XII, The Lure of the Moonflower, she’s in the throes of wedding preparations at Colin’s not-so-stately home, Selwick Hall.
I hereby declare this… Colin & Eloise Wedding Week.
I was just going to do one post, tomorrow, for Teaser Tuesday, but the post grew and grew on me, so…. We’ll have wedding week, instead, with posts about the dress, the cake, the presents… and, of course, a contest!
Today? The dress.
While it would have been tempting to poke around in the attic of Selwick Hall to see what she could see, Eloise deliberately avoided going Regency for her gown. This may or may not have had something to do with the fact that Colin absolutely refused to wear the matching knee breeches, cravat, and embroidered waistcoat.
Instead, back in the spring, Eloise did some shopping around for a wedding dress in the Vera Wang 2004 and 2005 collections.
Pammy, Jillian, and Eloise’s mother made themselves comfortable on the benches outside the fitting room and offered their opinions. Many, many opinions.
This was Pammy’s pick:
Jillian countered with a postmodern take on the Regency gown:
Eloise’s mother wondered loudly why nothing had proper sleeves anymore.
Eloise narrowed it down to two. First, this:
But it wasn’t quite right, somehow.
In the end, here’s the one she chose:
And this is the reason why:
What sort of dress would you have chosen for Eloise? If you have any suggestions, just post links in the comments below!
Also, since this Wedding Week was a spur of the moment idea, let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see! Gifts, cake, bridesmaids dresses, men in morning suits….
Just started listening to the book when your post popped up. I can only assume Eloise has pink carnations somewhere in her flowers?
Looking forward to listening to book #12. Have been with you since the beginning and this is one of my favorite book series.
I actually like Jillian’s suggestion. I’m grateful for Eloise that no one was too insistent…my mom fell in love with the 2nd gown I tried on, got me swept away with it, and then kept telling me I looked like Cinderella, which was not what I wanted to look like! My wedding dress was very 90s. I liked the color (candlelight ivory) and there were these neat cutouts of roses around the hem…in fact the skirt was nice but the bodice was an awful conglomeration of beads, sparkles, and an enormous butt-bow.
Loved the dress Jillian picked out but Eloise definitely picked the right dress for her. So glad you decided to spread it out as a whole week.
I love the dress, especially the flower beading. It’s perfect for Eloise.
I’m curious about flowers as well- I envision this awesome arrangement with all the different flowers from the series incorporated somehow.
Yay wedding week! I love weddings.
We got a brief mention of Colin’s stag party, but surely Pammy must have whipped up something good for Eloise’s bachelorette party?
You may just have given me this week’s contest topic, Karen….
Eloise selected a lovely dress! Let the celebration begin!
Love it – want to see her hairstyle and veil AND all the hats/facinators worn by bridal party and the mums…it is a British wedding afterall. And I have to admit, I’ve only read the teaser because I just can’t bring myself to end the journey by reading the book….it’s sitting by my bed beckoning yet being repelling because it. Just. Can’t. REALLY. Be. THE. END…….my heart can’t take it. And it’ll be the worst book hangover ever. The only other hangover that will compare is when Outlander finally ends. Alas, my heart continues its quandry…maybe I’ll just read the eloise parts first…..sigh..tis the life of a serial bibliophile.
Of the dressed you showed, I like Eloise’s pick the best. I’m a big fluffy dress kind of gal myself. Can’t wait to see all the wedding preparations.
Love the dress! Please show the men, lol! Always the men.
What fun!!! Thank you for making us feel like we are really a part of the wedding we waited so long for! I know one day there will be a return of the Pink Carnation and will be patient! Agree there has to be pink carnations among the wedding flowers as that is what brought them together.
Absolutely the men! Got to know what they’re wearing. Pink carnation in Colin’s lapel? Or purple gentian?
This is going to be a great week. Please don’t make Colin wear a pink carnation. I think Eloise deserves a flower of her own, maybe that could be a contest too.
love the dress!! need to see the mens, and the bridesmaids! and decorations, cake, all of it! so excited but hate to see it end. thank you so much for all the fun and escape!
Definitely need to see morning suits and men.
The last is definitely the best. Love the embroidery & side ribbon. Speaking of get A wang, it reminded me of a quote from Lizzie in Bride Wars. ” You do not alter a Vera to fit you, YOU alter for Vera:)So Eloise should watch her waistline…
I like the one Eloise chose. The embroidery is just lovely! I would love to see what the wedding cake will look like 🙂
Love Eloise’s choice….beautiful beading details!
Bring on the Presents and cake!
Eloise made just the right choice…the detail in the embroidery won me over right off! Jillian’s choice is nice and Pammy’s is just like Pammy – a bit over the top. This is going to be a fun week – I can enjoy it as I read!
Men in morning suits.
LOVE!!! Eloise’s dress is perfect for her. Can’t wait to see other wedding details.
[…] you need context, this is her dress. Her bridesmaids are in lime green […]
I love wedding week! Too bad we can’t see what Turnip was wearing 😉
