I second the Parasol Protectorate, as for The Forgotten Garden, I still have about 200 pages left… so we’ll see.

The Flavia De Luce series, so much fun! Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde, just amazing. The Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson books. Terry Pratchett’s final Tiffany Aching book, I Shall Wear Midnight. And of course, The Mischeif of the Mistletoe!

I just started reading Outlander and I think I’m hooked. I also just found out that they’re all really really long! Good thing the newest book isn’t expected for at least another year. This series will keep me busy for a while.

    Other great books this year:
A Vintage Affair – Isabel Wolff
Lost Girls – Jennifer Baggett et al.
A Hidden Affair – Pam Jenoff
Red Hook Road – Ayelet Waldman
    Lotus Eaters – Tatjana Soli
    Die Twice – Andrew Grant
Sarah’s Key – Tatiana de Rosnay
    and of course, Mistletoe

Very glad to hear people loved The Distant Hours – I just picked it up from the library yesterday.

I liked how people included the books they read this year as opposed to books that came out this year. I mainly read books from previous years. I did read a few books that came this year. My favorite new releases are Betrayal of Blood Lily and Mischief of Mistletoe. (Although I preferred Betrayal I admired its depth and darker tone. Although it wasn’t too dark, it was more delicately balanced.)
I also am reading The Lady Most Likely which Just came out. It is very good, and a quick read!!!! (Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Connie Brockway)
Books I read for the first time that I love include:
A Study in Scarlet (Conan Doyle)
The War Against Miss Winter (Miller Haines)
    Scandal (Amanda Quick)
    The Grand Sophy (Georgette Heyer)
    The Talisman Ring (Heyer)
    Venetia (Heyer)
    False Colors (Heyer, again)
    The Unfinished Clue (Heyer, again)
I read a lot of Heyer this year. Too many to list!!!
It to Be You Susan Elizabeth Phillips
    First Lady Susan Elizabeth Phillips
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn
Quinn, Quick,James, and Heyer were recommendations of Lauren. Lauren; thank you your taste is excellent and I enjoyed all the books.
