Weekly Reading Round-Up
Happy Friday, all!
I was utterly absorbed by Julia London’s Rules for Aging and Larceny, about four best friends who reunite in their seventies for one last heist. Recommended for fans of The Thursday Murder Club and Deanna Raybourn’s Killers of a Certain Age. The book was so engrossing that I gulped it up in a single sitting on the plane back from France to New York (and still had some time left over for a Miss Silver mystery.)
Why, yes, there was more Miss Silver in my life this week: The Summerhouse, The Listening Eye, and Poison in the Pen, which means I’ve got only three Miss Silvers left and may need to start to ration myself.
I finished off the week with another of my favorite cozy English detective series, Hazel Hunt’s Mrs. Malory, in Mrs. Malory and the Delay of Execution, in which Mrs. Malory agrees to fill in as an English teacher at an all girls’ school, possibly one of my favorite Mrs. Malory books so far.
What have you been reading this week?
I’ve been on a weird comic binge, the only one of which I would recommend is called “Chachu” which is about a girl in the 1970s who goes to LA to find her lost uncle who has recently married a Hollywood star. Gritty and funny and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
I just finished The Island Bakeshop, second in Roseanna M. White’s Island series – first was The Island Bookshop, released last year. These books are set in the North Carolina Outer Banks, just about an hour and a half from me in Virginia Beach. Right now I’m reading Inheriting Her Island House, a fun read by Jennifer Faye, a new to me author. This came up as a Book Bub recommendation, and I am in love with the fictional Bluestar Island. Lots more set in this community, supposedly not far from Boston, if I choose to explore further.
