If Heroes Were Chocolate….

The UK romance review site Choc Lit just named The Secret History of the Pink Carnation one of their books of the month. As part of the accompanying author interview, they asked me what kind of chocolate the hero would be. I have to admit, I’d never thought of Richard quite that way before.

This struck me as a fun party game, so here’s my question: if Richard, Amy, Miles, Hen, Geoff, Vaughn, et al, were chocolates, which chocolates would they be?

First thing that came to mind was, that Richard would be Milk Chocolate, Miles some kind of chocolate with almonds or biscuits, since he loves them so much! and Vaughn would be Dark Dark chocolate, very bittersweet. Geoff, I have no idea what kind of chocolate he might be, perhaps white chocolate.
I see Hen as a chocolate milkshake, don’t know if that helps, and Amy as some kind of chocolate mixed with coconut or some crazy mixture/invention.
This was just off the top of my head, Im sure there are better ideas!

Richard is dashing and daring and perfect without ever trying- he’s chocolate filled with caramel.

Miles is bright and happy and heroic, but not as suave as Richard- he’s chocolate with peanutbutter (caramel’s less dramatic but cheery cousin).

Vaughn is dark and bitter but romantic and classy- he’s dark chocolate (like the 70% coco kind).

Geoff is always nice, but inherantly forgetable- so he’s plain hershey bar

Amy is bright and happy and flamboyant and everywhere at once- she’s a take 5 bar (with chocolate, peanutbutter, caramel, pretzel, and peanuts, you’ve got enough back-up plans to satisify even her standards).

Hen is a cheery sort of person who likes to laugh and find fault- she’s a snickers bar, because she likes to snicker.

Mary Alsworthy is something like an M&M. She’s hard and bright on the outside, while smooth and sweet inside.

    haha! this is fun!

Richard-I like the chocolate with carmel idea. but it’s got to be one of the chocolates from a nice shop (think godiva or champlain) with a pretty design on the top because Richard has flair!

Amy is a haystack- a mismatch of everything haphazardly covered by butterscotch or chocolate.

Jeff and Letty-are plain milk chocolate (too practical to want to be anything else!)

Miles is valencia chocolate. Not quite ginger, but orange has it’s own pizazz.

Henrietta I imagine as a truffle-pretty, used to being the best/in charge, a little something extra/exotic, but always classy

Vaughn is most definitely dark chocolate for all of the reasons mentioned by others. Def. bittersweet

Mary I see as a chocolate martini-one with a lot of punch!

Charlotte is a dainty chocolate covered lady finger.

I see Robert as anything cadbury (well known and noble!)

And Penelope I can only guess at, but she would be some kind of spicy chocolate (like the truffles that have paprika on them)

    Charlotte would be white chocolate.

Geoff, something like the original Lindt milk chocolate, something too easily (and harshly) overlooked for another more exciting (but less satisfying) flavor.

Letty would be chocolate with chopped hazelnuts, nothing too fancy, but something with enough bite and good taste to let you know that it is different.

Katie – I love your matches! So very on point. I’m not even going to try to do better 😉

Okay cool I like all of the matches, but here’s my try:
I am going partly on taste and personality, but also by the names

    1) Richard is a Three Musketeers bar. or maybe a Milky Way, going with Katie’s caramel thing, but I like the way Three Musketeers sounds. Swashbuckling and balcony-swinging if we never see Richard doing those things. They probably named the candy bar, because its light, airy and smooth

    2) Miles is a butterfingers. A tough center that; still easy to bite into.
sort playing off Katie’s peanut butter. Its also long and Miles is tall
    He also might be Snickers
He also might be a Klondike bar. I am thinking of the commercials these chocolates are market towards men and Miles is a man’s man.

    3) Geoff is chocolate covered strawberries. Something sweet, and full of natural goodness.

4)Letty is hot chocolate (from a box). Something practical you have to mix, and sort of seek to have, but warms you right up. Also something that could spill

    5) Vaugh is chocolate-covered marzipan. Not for everyone and certainly not for plebian taste buds.
That’s all for now. I see if I can think of anything better later.

What a fun idea! Ok, here are my picks for just the heros:

    Vaugn – Dark Chocolate Liqueur
(Refined, sublime, ultra-velvety, decadent, absolutely delicious)

    Richard – Dark Couverture Chocolate
    (smooth, pure, refined, true)

    Geoff – Truffles
(seems ordinary outwardly but lovely surprise underneath; sweet depths)

    Miles – M&M’s
(just amazing fun and good for every occasion!)

Hmmmm, let’s see – I think I would go with:

Richard – Dark Chocolate – he’s still bitter about Miles and Hen getting hitched, after all.

Miles – Hershey’s Cookies and Cream – it seems like Miles is a naturally lighthearted guy, dashing but also rather distracted constantly by Henrietta’s affections for him. What better combination of chocolate for an easygoing person, than Cookies and Cream?

Geoffrey – Twix with Caramel – I would say Geoff is, for the main part, a lusciouslly sweet package too hard for Letty to resist, with an alotgether naturally sweet mixed in temperament. This is why I would choose a Twix for him.

Vaughn – Rocky Road Ice Cream – I would choose this because his romance with Mary tended to be a bit tumultous, and kind of stormy. It was a rocky road for them to travel, what with the Black Tulip being thrown into the mix. I would say he was a little bit nutty for their taste. ^_^
