Casting Call for NIGHT JASMINE

Poor Night Jasmine the Paperback! It keeps getting neglected in the build-up to the release of The Betrayal of the Blood Lily. (Considering Penelope’s and Charlotte’s respective characters, that does seem rather par for the course.) Still, it’s only fair that Charlotte should get at least some time in the spotlight as we approach her paperback debut. So… casting call!

On Strange and Random Happenstance today, Miss Eliza wrote a great essay on her pick for Charlotte, Carey Mulligan from the recent BBC Northanger Abbey:

Meanwhile, over on Storycasting, Amanda Seyfried seems to be winning out for the role of Charlotte, although she has some competition from Kirsten Dunst and Amy Adams.

Who would you pick for Charlotte?

Hmm… When I read the book, I kept picturing Charlotte as looking like you (and she’s the only one of your heroines I’ve done that with). If picked an actress–maybe Susannah Harker (Jane Bennet in the 1995 Pride & Prejudice).

Actually… I picture Charlotte as looking like me, too. She’s the only character I’ve based on me.

Very cool! Did you consciously decide that from the beginning or did she just end up looking like you as you wrote?

I’d say Amanda Seyfried is the American Carey Mulligan… So Lauren, who’d you like to play you in your biopic?

The more I see of Mia Wasikowska, I think she’d be perfect.

Having just watched “North & South” again last night, what about Daniela Denby-Ashe (if she was blonder). She has the combination of sweetness and strength that Charlotte has.

She actually IS a blonde… though, after that stint on Torchwood, I will never see her as sweet… though she does look good in Regency clothes.

I haven’t seen Torchwood (though I’ve heard great things about), so I only have North & South to go on. I think it’s fascinating how the casting game often comes down to not just the right actor but the right actor in the right role.

I think she could work though, she has the right look. She’s also very versitile, I honestly didn’t even recognize her on Torchwood till I was watching a documentary on BBC miniseries and it clicked. Everyone should watch Torchwood, it’s so good and you don’t have to be a Doctor Who fan.

Totally agree she has the right look–I like her more as Charlotte the more I think about it.

Definitely have to add Torchwood to my to-be-viewed list!

That’s a very good choice for her.

Given her recent success, though I often see Charlotte as myself (who can help it?), I would pick Amy Adams. She could easily go to blonde from her beautiful red, and she has the doe-eyes I always imagine Charlotte would have. Even through her dramatics in Enchanted, she had a command on her emotions that hints she would do well in any role.

[…] But while we’re still talking about The Temptation of the Night Jasmine (which came out in paperback yesterday! yay!), the fabulous Miss Eliza has posted her dreamcasting choice for Night Jasmine’s hero on her website, Strange and Random Happenstance. (You can check out choices for the heroine, Charlotte, here.) […]

I would like to put Amanda Bynes in for consideration. She has the wide eyed wonder mixed with stiff spine to dig in and hold her own with anyone.
