THE OTHER DAUGHTER Contest
There’s only a month and a week left until The Other Daughter comes out!
(Why is it that “a month and a week” sounds so much less poetical than “a month and a day”?)
In the meantime, I have one last ARC of The Other Daughter to give away.
Here’s the official blurb:
Raised in a poor yet genteel household, Rachel Woodley is working in France as a governess when she receives news that her mother has died, suddenly. Grief-stricken, she returns to the small town in England where she was raised to clear out the cottage…and finds a cutting from a London society magazine, with a photograph of her supposedly deceased father dated all of three month before. He’s an earl, respected and influential, and he is standing with another daughter-his legitimate daughter. Which makes Rachel…not legitimate. Everything she thought she knew about herself and her past-even her very name-is a lie.
Still reeling from the death of her mother, and furious at this betrayal, Rachel sets herself up in London under a new identity. There she insinuates herself into the party-going crowd of Bright Young Things, with a steely determination to unveil her father’s perfidy and bring his-and her half-sister’s-charmed world crashing down. Very soon, however, Rachel faces two unexpected snags: she finds she genuinely likes her half-sister, Olivia, whose situation isn’t as simple it appears; and she might just be falling for her sister’s fiancé…
From Lauren Willig, author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Ashford Affair, comes The Other Daughter, a page-turner full of deceit, passion, and revenge.
Booklist says of The Other Daughter: “Vibrant and thrilling, Willig’s third stand-alone should garner an audience beyond fans of the Pink Carnation series.”
For an ARC of The Other Daughter, here’s your question:
— What else (aside from The Other Daughter) is on your reading list this summer?
The winner will be announced on Thursday.
Happy Monday, all!
I have a whole stack to read this summer.
I have been so distracted by the Pink Novels, and a few others. I feel the time is finally right to start the Outlander Series!!
Well, Pink 12 certainly; and Elin Hilderbrand, Dorothea Benton Frank, and Sarah Pekkanen have new books out…
Of course The Lure of the Moonflower which will make me so sad to see my favorite series ending:(
Then I am waiting patiently for Deanna Raybourn’s new book “A Curious Beginning” and also Tasha Alexander’s “The Adventuress.”
I also have a couple of Ace Atkins )writing as Robert Parker) Spenser novels!!
I just started a book about Teddy Roosevelt. Hopefully “The Other Daughter”!
I have so many! Right now I’m reading The Trials Of Artemis by Sue London. I have a few Nora Roberts novels waiting for me and hopefully I can read The Other Daughter ARC 😉
looking forward to The Blood Curse (The Cursed Kingdoms Trilogy) by Emily Gee
Pink 12 and holly black. The other daughter and a few other mysteries I missed along the way
I have a huge pile of “Novels I Wasn’t Allowed to Read Until I Finished My Dissertation,” which includes Plumeria and Manzanilla, Deborah Harkness’s The Book of Life, Deanna Raybourn’s City of Jasmine, Hilary Mantel’s Bring up the Bodies, and lots of other goodies. I can’t wait!!
I plan to re read Georgette Heyer books this summer!
Rodin’s Lover by Heather Webb, Letters to the Lost by Iona Grey, and That Summer
Dena, I loved “Letters to the Lost”! I was stuck in Birmingham airport for eight hours and that book made the wait go by so much faster.
Rereading a bunch of Rosamunde Pilcher’s books.
The Lure of the Moonflower, the latest in the Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines. And I’m sure a few others.
The Other Daughter will be my enjoyable reading this summer. The rest of my reading will be researching food allergies which my 14 month old daughter was just diagnosed with and IEPs for my 3 year old son.
Casie, I’m so sorry. I hope they’re as minor as they can be and that she’s doing okay.
I’m currently reading juvenile and YA fiction such as the Amber House trilogy and City of Ember books.
Reading a Jodi Picoult novel, always a Georgette Heyer, and anxiously awaiting the Lure of the Moonflower and The Other Daughter!!
I just discovered Karen White so I’m working through her novels – I cannot wait to read the Charleston Mystery series!
Lots of things! I’d like to get to Elizabeth Hoyt’s Dearest Rogue and the next Macey Gardella book by Colleen Gleason.
The Sound of Glass by Karen White
Tiny Little Thing by Beatriz Williams!
Just read Karen White’s The Sound of Glass. That WAS on the list. I liked the name of the law firm btw (Williams, White & Willig). I am waiting for Beatriz Williams’s Tiny Little Thing, The Other Daughter, and The Lure of The Moonflower. Those are at the top. I am also waiting for The English Spy. Kristin Hannah’s Nightingale is in the queue, too. And those are just a few. To be honest, I also want to read Making it Stick, the Science of Successful Learning, but that’s for work! Still on the list, though.
Pink 12 (obviously) and The Invasion of the Tearling, sequel to the amazing Queen of the Tearling!
I have a few shelves to go through, but this summer I want to get to Dead Wake, The Other Typist, Outlander, The Girls From Ames among others.
I’m catching up with Eileen Dryer’s Drake’s Rakes series on ebook, which I’m accessing from spots where I can’t read a physical book. Works great.
Working my way through Tasha Alexander’s Lady Emily series. And have started Maisie Dobbs. And on the side a few Agatha Christie to be going “old school”.
I’ve read all of yours and Williams… Now I’m catching up with White. Read Sound of Glass; now I’m reading Long Time Gone.
Thirteenth Tale and Mr. Churchill’s Secretary are on the list too.
I have “Sun-Kissed: Effusions of Summer” the anthology from Meryton Press (edited by the talented Christina Angel Boyd) as first up on my list. I’ve read all of yours and would LOVE something new by you. I can’t wait to read this – even if I do have to wait “a month and a week”.
Royal Wedding was on my must list! I’m rereading all the Pinks, and then whatever jumps out at me along the way!
I am about to finish Jayne Ann Krentz’s Arcane Society. I am also doing a read along for Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons. And whatever else comes up on my two FB romance book clubs!
Obviously, Jane’s Pink book. And Beatriz William’s 2 new books.
I just started the Scarlet Pimpernel in honor of Pink ending and I’m debating reading that series. Definitely need to read Kate Atkinson’s A God in Ruins
Right now, I’m reading Dead Wake by Erik Larson. On my list for the summer are Go Set a Watchman, at the Waters Edge, and Book of Life. I can’t wait to read the final Pink novel and The Other Daughter as well!
Lure of the Moonflower, naturally. And currently on book 3 of the Outlander series.
Pink 12 and the last Outlander book, Written In My Own Heart’s Blood
Catching up on my Susanna Kearsley with Mariana, and Princess Academy: Palace of Stone – which despite the Disneyish title is a sequel to the a Newberry Honor Book. Lots of good stuff in YA fiction!
The Washington biography by Ron Chernow. Or I may just use it as a doorstop… That thing is HUGE.
All the Light We Cannot See, Bring Up the Bodies, and the two latest Outlander books. And Pink 12, of course!
Pink XII, of course, but otherwise my TBR stack is endless…mostly mysteries and historical fiction.
My summer reading list is so long! Both of your books, Francine Rivers has a couple I need to catch up on and I want to read All the light We Cannot See and Alarm Girl and The Light Between Oceans and many more!
the new Beatriz Williams!
I’m also reading Dead Wake (very interesting), just finished #2 & 4 of the Maggie Hope series (what my library had) now hoping to find 1 & 3! And of course Moonflower and Other Daughter!
Finishing up Ruth’s Journey and To Marry an English Lord. I plan on re-reading the entire Pink series to get me ready for Lure of the Moonflower, some Georgette Heyer, The Chalice by Nancy Bilyeau, and may finish the Montmaray Journals by Michelle Cooper.
Everything! I’m currently in line for 19 books at the library. Right now I’m reading the Alexander McCall Smith version of Emma.
Currently reading the Outlander Series, Grapes of Wrath, Insurgent, Mockingjay, Unbroken and One Fifth Avenue. I am a mood reader so I like to have many options available depending on the day. Oh, and I just started Helen of Sparta by Amalia Carosella…great so far 🙂 Can’t wait for The Other Daughter!!!
Currently reading Susanna Kearsley’s new book A Desperate Fortune. After this one who knows!
Ann
My summer reading list is pretty short: The 6th Extinction by James Rollins, The White Queen by Philippa Gregory, and The Other Daughter. With a toddler and a baby due in September I’ll be lucky to get those read. One book a month should be doable, right?
•Midnight Manzanilla – can’t wait until release!
I’m re-reading all of the Outlander series! The new TV show inspired me.
“My first five husbands…and the ones that got away”!
Besides The Lure of the Moonflower and The Other Daughter, I recently started the Roma Sub Rosa Mystery Series Steven Saylor and have finished the 1st 2 and want to get back to the rest. I think I am moving into a Mystery phase so probably will see whatever mysteries out there that grab my interest and then I have a book I picked up on the $1 rack called The Pirate’s Daughter by Margaret Cezair-Thompson that looked interesting that takes place in Jamaica and has Errol Flynn in it (anybody read it? What did you think?).
That Summer is on my list, and Dry Bones by Craig Johnson, The Fixer by Joseph Heller, and Rock with Wings by Anne Hillerman, and 5 Days to a Clutter Free House (yeah, like that’s gonna happen). Add to this the last in the Pink Series when it comes out in August.
“The Lure of the Moonflower” is next. Can’t wait to meet Jack Reed.
Too many! My goal this summer is to get through my backlog (books I own but haven’t read yet) a bit. Moonflower and Daughter may be the only new release books I allow myself to read this summer!
I want to read at least one SciFi, one fantasy, and one nonfiction book this summer, on top of everything else.
I’m reading Drums of Autumn & I’m looking forward to the Lure of the Moonflower!
I’m looking forward to Lure of the Moonflower- love Jack and Jane. 🙂 Then I’m thinking of taking an excursion into Egypt with some Elizabeth Peters, Michelle Moran, and Pauline Gedge, or perhaps I’ll revisit India with M. M. Kaye’s Shadow of the Moon, Victoria Holt’s The India Fan, and Valerie Fitzgerald’s Zemindar. Although, having just sped through Jennifer Roberson’s Robin Hood/Maid Marian series (Lady of the Forest, Lady of Sherwood), I may take an excursion into her fantasy series. The summer means fun and exploration, so it’s hard to commit to one avenue. Hopefully- time permitting- I’ll go down all of them.
My summer reading list includes “The Keepers of the house” by Shirley Ann Grau and “The Hurricane Sisters” by Dorothea Benton Frank. These are just 2 of the many books I have on my list.
The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams, A Perfect Heritage by Penny Vincenzi, Wicked Charms by Janet Evanovich, China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan, and I know there are others, but I can’t recall them off the top of my head lol
Currently, I am on a scifi bend, so I am reading a YA called “A Thousand Pieces of You” aboit a daughter who is travelling through parallel dimensions to get revenge on the man who murdered her father!
I’m still trying to read What We’ve Lost is Nothing, which is a part of the Summer Reading Program at the library I work for. I also need to catch up on the Pink series as well as the Maggie Hope series. Hopefully I can! 🙂
Well that is a loaded question:
Mr. Mercedes – King
The Circle – Eggers
All the books my students will be reading next year… (Romeo and Juliet, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Waiting for Snow in Havana, Short Stories -not sure of the authors making changes-, and Of Mice and Men.)
Lure of the Moon Flower – Willig
Any other books that catch my eye.
I just finished rereading Winston Graham’s Poldark series in honor of the new television series, and I am looking forward to both Moonflower and The Other Daughter. For work, I am doing background reading for my new research project on rebellions in the 1760s, so there’s lots of rebelling and mayhem in the bookcase next to my desk.
Tiny Little Thing by Beatriz Williams and That Summer are at the top of my list as well as the Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy by Nora Roberts and Why do you Love by Jennifer Weimer.
