Weekly Reading Round-Up

Hello from House of Plague!

With two poor little ones hit hard by Influenza A, I’ve mostly been reading the dosage guidelines on the sides of the Children’s Motrin bottles.  But when I’ve been able to get away from sponging brows and wiping noses, I’ve been reading M.L. Longworth’s Death at the Chateau Bremont.  I adored the new tv series based on the books, and I’ve been fascinated by the way the two diverge– it’s a master class on how a book can be adapted and changed while still keeping its character.  Maybe it’s just France and all the food descriptions, but this reminds me a fair bit of Martin Walker’s Bruno books, which I also found reliable reads when I was otherwise distracted.

And now it’s time for book tour!  I have my Kindle loaded with ARCs to read on all the upcoming plane and train rides (and just possibly a Jenny Colgan or two, since I always read Jenny Colgan on book tour– it’s a personal tradition.)

What have you been reading this week?

I was going to ask if you’ve seen the new series based on the books staring the ALWAYS PERFECT Roger Allam. I’ve requested my library to buy the first few books so I can read them too! Last weekend I just didn’t feel in the mood for Heyer, or perhaps it’s because I just couldn’t get into ‘The Convenient Marriage’ but I decided to binge all of the graphic novel ‘Something is Killing the Children’ by James Tynion IV. He’s very good at everyday life getting invaded by the other. Also, they’re always set in Wisconsin, so that’s fun. Also, with the news out of Northern Wisconsin over the last few weeks I needed a kick ass heroine working to protect children. Now I’m back to the land of Bridgerton with ‘To Sir Phillip, With Love.’ Hope the kiddos feel better and the book tour is legendary!

Reading and loving the Grace Burrowes Lady Violet series. I’m on book 5 (out of 6) and still going strong.
