Teaser Tuesday: Just to Recap….

As the countdown (count up?) to The Passion of the Purple Plumeria, aka Pink X, continues, I thought it would be rather fun to revisit the first nine books in the Pink series.

So, each day this week, I’m going to be sharing my personal favorite scene from each of the earlier Pink books– and I want to know yours.

Pink I, aka The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, coming up tomorrow!

In the meantime, which is your favorite Pink book?

I’ll choose four participants at random to receive a signed cover flat of The Passion of the Purple Plumeria.

I love then all, but The Garden Intrigue is probably my current favorite. The amount of ruffles and bad poetry from August was spectacular and I throughly enjoyed how American the heroine got to be!

  2. Sue G on July 16, 2013 at 9:19 am

I have read the first five books in the Pink Series. I would have to say that The Masque of the Black Tulip is my favorite. Just love Hen and Miles. Hen is charming. friendlyandalways about to be in trouble. I just love Miles. He’d do anything for Hen– that’s what makes him a hero to me! Enjoyed Bunny and Biscuits , too.

    • Lynne on July 16, 2013 at 11:53 pm

I’d say amen to Sue”s choice. I loved Hen and Miles, as well. Wouldn’t even mind more of them …They were always so witty and charming together

      • Lauren on July 16, 2013 at 11:58 pm

Lynne and Sue, I couldn’t resist bringing Miles and Hen in for a cameo in “The Passion of the Purple Plumeria”– the only difficulty was making sure they didn’t steal the show!

  3. Stef on July 16, 2013 at 10:10 am

    Ok here goes:
I: When Amy is hunting for clues in Edouard’s study and the Purple Gentian comes and she has to hide under the desk.
II: Anytime Henrietta, Charlotte, and Penelope are together.
III: When Geoff FINALLY realizes that he loves Letty, not Mary.
IV: Basically anytime that Vaughn talks and I have to puzzle out what he’s actually saying.
V: This is my favorite one so it would be impossible to choose just one scene.
VI: When we meet William Reid and he’s the only person who’s being nice to Penelope at the party
VII: The first scene where Arabella is talking to that author…whose name I can’t remember… jk
VIII: When Laura is trying to figure out how to sleep next to Andre in a governessy manner
IV: Any time Emma’s clothes are being described. She’s a snappy dresser, that one!

    • Lauren on July 20, 2013 at 7:04 pm

Stef, I love your list! Especially your comments on #IV and #VIII.

  4. Jessica S. on July 16, 2013 at 10:29 am

It was The Masque of the Black Tulip, until I read The Orchid Affair…I am also a big Geoff/Letty fan, so Emerald Ring ranks right up there.

  5. Céline on July 16, 2013 at 10:50 am

It’s sooo hard to decide which Pink is my favorite!!
I’d pick… Pink I, just because it’s the first and such a lovely introduction into your world. Then, a tie-up between Emerald Ring (love Letty and Geoff), Mistletoe (currently re-reading it… :D) and The Orchid Affair (because of Laura and that wonderful scene when she undresses and saves the situation…)
But then, there is Penelope and Alex, one of my favorite couples…
It’s so hard to choose!!!!!! 🙂
Thanks for the trip back into the memory lane of the Pink books!
(Have I already said how much I’m gonna miss all this when you bring the series to an end? My heart is bleeding just thinking about that…)

  6. Anya Chaplya on July 16, 2013 at 11:01 am

Being a plus sized girl sometimes being more insecure than I ought to be, I choose Emerald Ring, Even though Black Tuplip is a WONDERFUL book. I must say. It’s always wonderful when you find you that your partner desires you in the same ferver that you desire them back.

  7. Bev on July 16, 2013 at 11:02 am

My favorite is always the last one I’ve read– until I read the next one. I love them all, seriously!

  8. Dara on July 16, 2013 at 11:09 am

I’m rereading them all now in preparation for Miss Gwen’s adventures. I don’t even know how you pick a favorite.

I will have to go with top 3:

    1. The Orchid Affair
    2. The Crimson Rose (I just love Vaughn so much. This one was number one until Orchid.)
    3. The Blood Lily

    I suppose I have a thing for anti-heros…

  9. Diana T. on July 16, 2013 at 11:12 am

It is so hard to choose but I love Black Tulip and the Emerald Ring equally I could read them over and over again and I have. I love them all of course but I love the Eloise and Colin parts in Emerald Ring. I have been having Eloise and Colin withdrawals so I am so happy the new one is coming out soon!

  10. Angie on July 16, 2013 at 11:15 am

The original Pink Carnation is my favorite–it was such a witty, original stew of romance, spy adventure and gentle satire that I fell head over heels. The joy of discovery just can’t be beat.

  11. Catherine on July 16, 2013 at 11:18 am

The Masque of the Black Tulip is still my favorite. I have a soft spot for bunny. 🙂

  12. Rachel on July 16, 2013 at 11:22 am

The Seduction of the Crimson Rose. There is just something about Vaughn and Mary that is intriguing.

The Masque of the Black Tulip is a very close second.

  13. Pat D on July 16, 2013 at 11:29 am

Favorite bits. . . Seeing how vulnerable Vaughn could be. Turnip displaying his athleticism by climbing up to Arabella’s window to make sure she’s fine. Who’d a thunk it? Richard getting whacked by oars while trying to be improper with Amy in the boat.Andre and Laura slowly falling in love. I don’t think I can pick a favorite book. They all have wonderful and different qualities.

  14. Erin M on July 16, 2013 at 11:32 am

    My favorite, hum…..
Night Jasmine is my favorite. Charlotte is just such a sweetheart. And the bit about the unicorn and the tarts, ugh, it just pulled at my heartstrings how adorably SWEET Charlotte is. Which is kind of funny since I’m definitely more of a Scarlett than a Melanie fan. Which is why my OTHER favorite is Blood Lily. Penelope is such a firebrand (although I know you said Lauren that your most “Scarlettesque” character is Mary) and I immediately identified with her. Although I DO love Mary and Vaughn in Crimson Rose.

So those are my top three:
    1. Night Jasmine
    2. Blood Lily
    3. Crimson Rose

And Pink Carnation gets honorable mention for not only being an awesome book in its own right, but for starting the series (and for many mentions of sheep!)

  15. Bridget Erin on July 16, 2013 at 11:48 am

I would have to say my favorite is The Masque of the Black Tulip: I love everything about Hen and Miles (and Bunny the Bunny of course). But the Emerald Ring and Mistletoe are close runners up. Who am I kidding Lauren, I love them all, but Miles and Hen are the best!

  16. Laura on July 16, 2013 at 11:52 am

Emerald Ring is still my favorite (currently re-reading it in anticipation of Pink X).

    Rest of the top 5

    2. Pink Carnation
    3. Crimson Rose
    4. Mistletoe
    5. Blood Lily

But really they are all wonderful!

  17. Christine on July 16, 2013 at 12:01 pm

I love Black Tulip and Orchid Affair for very different reasons. Then I read Purple Plumeria and now I have a definite top 3 and I can’t pick which of those is my favorite.

  18. MelissaW on July 16, 2013 at 12:24 pm

The Deception of the Emerald Ring.

I just love Letty – she’s still my favorite.

The Mischief of the Mistletoe is a close second, though.

  19. Kendra on July 16, 2013 at 12:31 pm

So, Miles and Hen have my favorite love story, but my favorite book is The Deception of the Emerald Ring. Letty is a force to be reckoned with. Love love love her and her determination.

  20. Leigh Anne on July 16, 2013 at 12:38 pm

Henrietta and Miles remain my favorite couple of the series, but I love Crimson Rose because it is brilliant! Lauren took two unlovable people and made them sympathetic without crushing their spirit! The romance between Mary and Vaughn feels real. Amazing writing!

  21. Liz on July 16, 2013 at 12:51 pm

The Deception of the Emerald Ring has always been my favorite–I love Letty and Geoff’s characters and the forced marriage turns into real love plot! Also the wonderful side characters of Jasper and Gwen.

  22. Shenandoah Strojek on July 16, 2013 at 1:10 pm

My absolute favorite book would have to be The Mischief of the Mistletoe. I love Christmas Stories and Turnip is the most awesome character ever!!

  23. Sarah Gentry on July 16, 2013 at 2:08 pm

I love all the books, but my favorite is a tie between The Betrayal of the Blood Lily and The Mischief of the Mistletoe. What is most amazing to me is that after the first two books, I picked up the next one and and thought, oh I don’t want to read about THOSE characters. Then somehow you make me love them as much as Richard and Amy, or Hen and Miles. I remember saying to my husband, I don’t want to read about Penelope (or Turnip) and now I love them the most out of all the characters. Its a testament to your ability as a writer to show us all people deserve love even if their outward personality doesn’t always seem lovable.

    • Lauren on July 20, 2013 at 7:06 pm

Sarah, thank you so much! That means so much to me.

  24. Shelli on July 16, 2013 at 2:11 pm

I agree with Bev: my favorite is always the one I am reading. But, I absolutely LOVE Mischief because I am in love with Turnip. Second to that is Letty’s story because I also love her. Actually, there’s a whole lot of love for the whole of the Pink Series!!

  25. Shelli on July 16, 2013 at 2:19 pm

I agree with Bev: my favorite is always the one I am reading.

But, I do absolutely LOVE Mischief because I am in love with Turnip.

Second to that is Letty’s story because I also love her.

Actually, there’s a whole lot of love for the whole of the Pink Series!!

  26. Rachel Brown on July 16, 2013 at 2:40 pm

I love The Mischief of the Mistletoe and The Deception of the Emerald Ring equally. Turnip and Geoff are complete opposites but I love them both as dashing heroes! And Letty reminds me of myself a good amount of the time!

  27. Meredith A on July 16, 2013 at 2:52 pm

The Mischief of the Mistletoe, The Betrayal of the Blood Lily and The Seduction of the Crimson Rose are my very favourites, but I love all of the books fanatically. Turnip and Arabella are the sweetest couple EVER, Penelope and Alex are so well suited and reading the book opened a whole new world of British Empire history for me, and Vaughn and Mary are exquisitely evil and loveable all at once. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the whole series.

    • Lauren on July 20, 2013 at 7:08 pm

Thanks, Meredith! After reading your comment, I just can’t get the idea of a sign reading “Mary & Vaughn: Exquisitely Evil Since 1803” out of my head….

  28. jeffrey on July 16, 2013 at 3:03 pm

The Mischief of the Mistletoe because it is the book that turned me on to the Pink Carnation series in the first place. What’s there not to love about Arabella, Reginald Fitzhugh, the scheming young ladies at Miss Climpton’s, the Dowager Duchess of Dovedale, a cameo appearance by Jane Austen herself and the amazing things that can be done with a Christmas pudding!

  29. rachel on July 16, 2013 at 3:04 pm

Pink I got me hooked, but I think Pink IV — Mary and Vaughn’s story — is my fave. She was such an interesting character.

  30. Vanessa on July 16, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Oh gosh it’s hard to pick a favorite because all of the Pink books are my favorite! The one book that I have a soft spot for is The Mischief of the Mistletoe! I loved the imagery from the frost fair that Turnip and Arabella attended and of course I can’t stop laughing from that scene when Lizzy sat on Signor Marconi 🙂 I also thought the romantic scene in Arabella’s study with Turnip was just so sweet!

  31. Jennifer W on July 16, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Seriously, how could I pick a favorite? I’m currently re reading the series in anticipation of Miss Gwen’s book. And every time I’m reading one I think it’s the best. But I have a real soft spot for Mischeif of the mistletoe. Who knew Turnips could be so hot???

  32. Jane on July 16, 2013 at 6:11 pm

    My favorite Pink book? Seriously??

How can I possibly choose? They’re all WONDERFUL! That’s like trying to pick one’s favorite child (if one has 9 or 10 of them – LOL).

  33. Amanda V on July 16, 2013 at 7:00 pm

I’m in the process of re-reading the series and just finished The Masque of the Black Tulip. I just adore Miles and Henrietta. They are by far my favorite couple, I can’t help but grin my way through the whole book. Of course, I might say the same thing about Geoff and Letty when I finish The Deception of the Emerald Ring..

  34. Veronika on July 16, 2013 at 7:07 pm

My favorites are Mischief of the Mistletoe, Black Tulip, and Crimson Rose….but if you asked in which order, I wouldn’t be able to decide!

  35. Kristy on July 16, 2013 at 7:12 pm

Pink because it’s the first, it’s the first one I read, and because I’ve always been such a Scarlet Pimpernel fan. Hearing about Percy again puts Pink at the top.

  36. Valerie on July 16, 2013 at 8:58 pm

My favorites are Emerald Ring and Crimson Rose. It’s hard to pick!

  37. Beth on July 16, 2013 at 9:33 pm

My favorite is The Orchid Affair…loved the story of the hero working for the French and gradually realizing the error of his ways…the acting troop also reminded me of the movie Scaramouche!

  38. Abby on July 16, 2013 at 9:54 pm

The Betrayal of the Blood Lily is my favorite- partly because Alex is my favorite hero of the Pink heroes and partly for the setting.

  39. Joy Elkins on July 16, 2013 at 10:55 pm

My favorite was the first: Secret History of the Pink Carnation because it was the beginning of it all. Thanks,Joy E.

  40. Jennifer on July 17, 2013 at 1:01 am

    Mischief of the Mistletoe!

  41. Jessica C on July 17, 2013 at 1:18 am

Hard to pick a favourite, but I think that Mischief of the Mistletoe wins by a hair. Jane Austen, Turnip and plum puddings, an unlikely but winning combination!

  42. Audrey on July 17, 2013 at 1:29 am

Well… I absolutely love all of them, for many varied reasons. If I have to pick a favorite, it would be the Secret History of the Pink Carnation. For one thing, the joy of discovering a new series that I love everything about… I just completely fell in love with your world in that book. Both worlds actually – past & present. I love all of them, but this one holds a special place in my heart 🙂

  43. Paige B. on July 17, 2013 at 6:00 am

Since I adore Miles and Hen, The Masque of the Black Tulip is probably my favorite. Truly, the entire series has been a treat.

  44. Yvette R on July 17, 2013 at 6:04 am

My favorite is Mischief of the Mistletoe. I just love everything about it! I have read the lovely hardback copy that I harassed the Barnes & Nobel people to find in their back room the day that it was released. And I have listened to my Audible copy at least five times (maybe more).

  45. Robyn on July 17, 2013 at 8:13 am

It is hard to choose a favorite. I feel a special bond with each of the Pink ladies. Said bond is why I return to reading the series when I need a boost or an escape. Even though I have read the books a hundred times, I always feel like I want/need more. So thanks to Lauren for being a truly great writer!!!!

  46. Megan on July 17, 2013 at 9:53 am

I love them all. But if I had to choose… The Deception of the Emerald Ring. I <3 Geoff. 🙂

  47. leslie on July 17, 2013 at 10:14 am

I love them all, but The Orchid Affair really sang to me.

Nobody has covers as beautiful as the Pinks.

  48. Marissa on July 17, 2013 at 11:51 am

It was the Masque of the Black Tulip for a very long time, but then Turnip’s book came out and won me over immediately. But Masque at a very close second. 🙂

  49. Courtney on July 17, 2013 at 1:57 pm

My favorite always has (and probably always will be) The Mischief of the Mistletoe. I have no idea why that one captures me so much…maybe it’s the humor (OMG, the entire navitiy scene makes me laugh out loud), or maybe it’s getting to see a much more complex look at Turnip. I don’t know. It’s my favorite…but this is my favorite series, so they’re all amazing.

  50. Betty S. on July 18, 2013 at 2:28 pm

I love them all for very different reasons, but would probably pick two favorites right now:

1.Emerald Ring because of the Irish connection, and it was good to see Geoff finally end up with his true love.

    2. Betrayal of the Blood Lily because I loved reading about India, and I was glad to see Pen become “real” and a sympathetic character.

But then I could pick Night Jasmine – loved Charlotte and Robert

Pink Carnation – Amy and Richard had such passion

Garden Intrigue was thrilling, and then I’m on to all of them.

  51. DJ La Haie on July 18, 2013 at 2:42 pm

Crimson Rose–can’t beat Vaughn and Lady Mary!

  52. Anna M. on July 18, 2013 at 7:03 pm

My favourite book is The Masque of the Black Tulip, I love Miles and Hen, they are my favourite hero and heroine in the entire series. The were both such amusing and likeable character, I especially love the way Miles looms, its hilarious!!!!!!! I would have to say that it had one of my favourite book covers ever as well.

  53. Rachel on July 18, 2013 at 9:03 pm

I was a bit late to the game, and didn’t know the books were a series. So I read Emerald Ring first. Perhaps it’s just sentimental, but as the book that roped me in, it still stands far and away as my favorite. I adore Hen and Miles, but for me they’re behind at least Charlotte and Penelope.

  54. SusanN on July 20, 2013 at 3:29 am

I’m way late, but I wanted to give a shout out for The Orchid Affair.

  55. froot loop on July 20, 2013 at 7:15 pm

This is the first time hearing about these books. But the good thing is that since I’m late in finding them I can read book after book. Can’t wait to start!

    • Lauren on July 21, 2013 at 5:27 pm

      I hope you enjoy!

  56. Clarisse on July 20, 2013 at 7:38 pm

I absolutely love The Deception of the Emerald Ring! It has been my favorite since I first read it. Letty and Geoff are adorable, and through the whole thing I just want Geoff to realize that she is the perfect one for him. Then when it happens, I am overjoyed!

  57. Jan on July 20, 2013 at 7:53 pm

I have been a fan since 2005 when I picked Pink Carnation up off a table at Borders and thought my 16 year old daughter and I might enjoy this book. Hooked ever since. I love all of the books, and have shared them with many people: our goddaughter flat on her back with a broken neck – her mom read the first 2 to her and together they laughed as she healed; a good friend on baby bedrest for 3 months – they were such a great respite from the trashy romances she was reading. I especially love Henrietta and Miles and all things Turnip:)

  58. Steph on July 20, 2013 at 8:24 pm

I’m in love with lord Vaughn, so I’m going with Seduction of the Crimson Rose.

  59. Sherri on July 20, 2013 at 8:39 pm

My favorite is The Mischief of the Mistletoe. It brought me back to reading after a long layoff and I love Turnip. 🙂

  60. Anne Smittle on July 20, 2013 at 8:43 pm

I liked the pudding bits from Mischief!

  61. Ellen S. on July 20, 2013 at 8:57 pm

My favorite couple is Miles and Hen, no wait, Amy and Richard, no, Mary and Vaughn – AAARGGH!
I’m with Bev and the others, my favorite is the one I’m reading. My best favorite, though, is Pink, for the same reasons mentioned above, this is the one that introduced me to it all.

  62. Eirene Ritznore on July 20, 2013 at 9:16 pm

I think, thus far, my favorite book is The Masque of the Black Tulip. I particularly love the bit where she is dancing with Whittlesby and he uses sesquipedalian with aplomb. Brilliance! However, I adore Letty and Geoff. And I love Charlotte and Robert. And Turnip and Arabella. And Amy and Richard. And Mary and Sebastian. And Colin and Eloise. And…I have the Blood Lily next on my reading list, so that may be my new favorite. 🙂 I just love them all. 🙂

  63. JJ on July 20, 2013 at 9:38 pm

The Pink Carnation, of course… where it all begins. 😉

  64. Susan Shaw on July 20, 2013 at 10:10 pm

I love them all, but The Mischief of the Mistletoe has become my favorite! The characters in all the books do become almost part of my historical family, though, yes, they are fictional;-))

  65. Christina Zastrow on July 20, 2013 at 10:29 pm

My favorite is Black Tulip. I love the evolution between two characters who’ve known each other forever.

  66. Dian Puspitorini on July 20, 2013 at 10:32 pm

Love all the Pink books, but my vote goes to Hen and Miles on The Masque of the Black Tulip. Oh, and also Turnip! 😉

  67. Sarah S. on July 20, 2013 at 10:39 pm

I LOVE them all! But my favorite is The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. I just found Charlotte to be so sweet and innocent. I also found Robert, the Duke of Dovedale to be the most absolute romantic man on the planet, worthy of Charlotte’s sincere innocents. The whole moment with the unicorn tarts…I probably read over and over again because it was truly the most romantic experience in any book I’ve ever read.

  68. Lesley on July 20, 2013 at 11:12 pm

Crimson Rose. I adore Vaughn and Mary. Hands- down favorites.

  69. Glory on July 21, 2013 at 12:09 am

So, it looks like I have a lot of competition for Vaughn….he’s my favorite character. I imagine him being a mixture of Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek and Robert Downey Jr. That whole cynical, dark personality….love!! Sooo, Crimson Rose is the one book I can read over and over.

  70. Hayley King on July 21, 2013 at 9:37 am

I’ve always liked The Masque of the Black Tulip, because I love the romance between Miles and Hen. Then I read The Betrayal of the Blood Lily and I identified so much with Penelope that the book has remained close to my heart.

  71. Harriette Harra on July 21, 2013 at 2:50 pm

They are all entertaining and well done. Perhaps “Emerald” stands out a bit more – but then, I adore green and emeralds….and emeralds with diamonds……..and…..lol. Thank you for a terrific series !

  72. Desiree Boettcher on July 21, 2013 at 6:43 pm

well my favorite is always the last one I’ve read– until I read the next one. I love them all, seriously!
Can’t wait for the next one….counting down the days!!!

  73. […] don’t want to distract from the Pink Carnation recap (three down, six to go before we get to Miss Gwen’s book!), so I’ll report this […]
