Tough one. Pride and Prejudice narrowly beats out Persuasion. I love its wit and social satire. I also find it heartening to think that with better understanding, self reflection and humility, true love can be realized and maintained. Besides, it is good for all of us not to take ourselves nor our circumstances quite so seriously.

Pride and Prejudice was my favorite Austen novel, mainly because it is the only story I clearly remember. Why? At this stage, it is Lizzie’s parents who stand out as the primo Odd Couple. And oh do they ever remind me of Lettie’s parents. Is this a coincidence?

Lizzie’s mother’s determination to marry off her daughters, her bubble-headed chatter, are very amusing. Lizzie’s poor dad, having to retreat to wherever he can to escape the female population of his ménage makes me laugh.

Of course I love the romance in the novel but after meeting Jamie and Claire of the Outlander books… well, that’s all I can say.
