Mini-Contest #2

As I was torturing myself at the gym the other day, surreptitiously squinting at the lettering on the T-shirt of the person in front of me, it suddenly occurred to me: the series has no clothes!

Correction: the series has no T-shirt.

With the publication of mass market Pink fast approaching, this seems like a fine time for Pink to acquire an official wardrobe. (I’ll have something new to wear to the gym!) My challenge to you is:

Create the Official Pink Carnation T-shirt!

For those, like me, who have never done this before, you can go to Cafe Press and from there to “make your own”. Just save your design and post the link here in the comments section. If you have another T-shirt design site you prefer, that works, too.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you post your link, there needs to be a number at the end of it, like this: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&number=%20467416951

If it looks like this, ending in “Custom Designer” rather than a number, it won’t come up properly: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?from=CustomDesigner

To get things started, I’ve created one. You can find it here.

Can you see why I’ve turned to you for help?

The contest closes on Sunday, September 18th. On Monday, September 19th, one participant will be chosen at random to receive a copy of The Mischief of the Mistletoe.

Once all the entries are in, I’ll throw it open to popular vote. Voting will open on September 19th and will close on the following Sunday, September 26th.

Whichever T-shirt gets the most votes will be the Official Pink Carnation T-shirt. (To be modeled by the author at a gym near her.) The winner of the T-shirt contest will receive an ARC of The Mischief of the Mistletoeand an Official Pink Carnation T-shirt.

Let the designs begin!

NEW INSTRUCTIONS: Okay, so this link-posting thing is proving rather trickier than I imagined. Here’s the new plan. Please do still post your link in the comments section (hopefully it will work!), but also save the front and back views of your t-shirt as jpegs and email them to me at willig@post.harvard.edu with Pink T-Shirt Contest as the subject line. I’ll post pictures, front and back, of all the T-shirts next week and we can do the voting that way. Sound better?

As an example, I right-clicked on my T-shirt on Cafe Press, saved front and back as jpeg files, and here they are:

  2. Sheila on September 14, 2010 at 9:59 am

Does this mean we can order any of the designs we like from the website? Cool !

I hope I did that right. This was fun, although I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. It was still pretty close.

I couldn’t decide between Believe in Pink or Beware the Flower that Kills.

Hi, Susan! When I clicked on the link, it took me to an empty shopping cart…. I wonder if there’s another link along the process that would pull up the shirt?

  7. Elizabeth P on September 14, 2010 at 11:48 am
  8. Lauren on September 14, 2010 at 11:58 am

Hi, Elizabeth! Can you try posting the link again? I’m getting an error message…. It looks like if it has numbers at the end, a la Bess’s entry, it will come up properly, but otherwise it won’t.

    Sorry about the technical glitches!

  10. Sheila on September 14, 2010 at 12:30 pm

Sorry Susan. This one took me to the create your own page. Arrgh. And Elizabet, when I click on your link, it shows Bess’s shirt. Bess:very nice .

What Sheila said. Sorry that this is proving so much more complicated than I imagined…. I wonder if there’s a better way to do this.

  13. carole on September 14, 2010 at 12:36 pm

Maybe we should just send our shirts to you Lauren.

  14. Lauren on September 14, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Hi, Carole! I’m getting an error message. Can you try posting again? Or is it just me?

If this doesn’t work, I could just describe it. It’s got a black party mask next to a carnation. And underneath says Trust the Pink.

I was looking for pink carnation petals to put around the mask, but couldn’t find petals.

    Here’s mine!

    http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&number= 468156352

I think that should work…We’ll see, I suppose. I used my email address to create the account to save it – if it doesn’t work, I can give you that.

  18. Gina on September 14, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Oops, not sure why there is a space in the url. But if you highlight the entire thing and paste it, it works.

  19. Lauren on September 14, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Oooh, yay, it does work! This whole link idea may not be doomed after all!

    Great design, Gina!

  20. Lauren on September 14, 2010 at 1:46 pm

Hi, Elizabeth P, Kristen S, and Carole! Would you mind re-posting your links so that they end in a number, like Bess and Gina’s? It looks like that’s the way to get the image to come up properly. If it says “custom design” at the end of the URL, it will come up as a blank or as an error message.

    EVERYONE….
    NEW INSTRUCTIONS AS LISTED ABOVE…

NEW INSTRUCTIONS: Okay, so this link-posting thing is proving rather trickier than I imagined. Hereโ€™s the new plan. 24. Gina on September 14, 2010 at 3:16 pm

    If anyone is still confused…
What I did was I clicked “Save to Buy later” and it prompts you to put in your email and a password. The page when you click back on your design after you saved it has a number on the end and can be followed, unlike the url’s that have designer at the end.

  25. Sheila on September 14, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Whoa–I am the Compleat Computer Dummy. The shirts all sound wonderful. I’ll just have to wait until they are all posted next week. Are we gonna vote? It would be great fun to actually have one.

  26. Lauren on September 14, 2010 at 6:05 pm

We’re definitely going to vote! The way these shirt sites work, anyone can buy whichever one they like directly. But I’m going to get a batch of whichever one wins the website vote and give them out as prizes.

  27. Stephanie Ball on September 14, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Way cool idea Lauren. Tees would make excellent prizes. As do the ARC’s ๐Ÿ™‚
I am having tons of fun just creating tee shirts. Did not know this place existed.

  28. Meg on September 14, 2010 at 7:36 pm

Just emailed my entry to you! Officially the most fun a contest has ever been. ๐Ÿ™‚

    hopefully this works!

  32. Kristen S on September 15, 2010 at 1:36 pm

okay, i just tried the link and the front is corrct, but there should be a picture of Pink’s cover between “of the” and “Pink Carnation” on the back!

  33. Lauren on September 15, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Yay! The link worked! How annoying about the image, though…. Oh, technology.

  34. Cho on September 15, 2010 at 5:02 pm

My artistic skills are virtually nonexistant, but I have an idea, if anyone wants to try it. Perhaps something like this: http://www.cafepress.com/+obsessedp_tee,114581034

Only for Pink Carnation, or the series. It could have “You might be obsessed with (insert picture of the Pink title) if…” on the front and a list of 10 things on the back.

Great minds? Cho, just yesterday I was thinking about maybe doing a Pink top ten of some kind (my law school T-shirt has “The Ten Biggest Lies at HLS”) as the next contest. “Ten Ways Not to Foil Bonaparte”? “You Know You’re in the League of the Pink Carnation When….”

If anyone wants to get a head start, go for it!! It would look great on the back of a T-shirt….
