Pink Carnation Recap: BLACK TULIP
It’s time for Pink II, The Masque of the Black Tulip
!
Who: Henrietta Selwick and Miles Dorrington
Where: England
When: Summer, 1803
What: That vicious French spy, the Black Tulip, is on the trail of the Pink Carnation—but the Tulip never reckoned with Lady Henrietta Selwick.
Historical Cameos: William Wickham, the Patronesses of Almacks
Whenever I run Pink popularity contests here on the website, Henrietta and Miles tend to win hands down. (Turnip Fitzhugh gives them some competition, but Henrietta seems to have the favorite heroine thing sewn up.) They also have their own follow-up novella, Bunny & Biscuits: A Very Dorrington Valentine’s Day.
My favorite scene in the book? Henrietta’s brief sojourn in Lord Vaughn’s Chinese chamber. Lord Vaughn does tend to steal the show, but Henrietta manages to match him entendre for entendre.
What’s your favorite scene from The Masque of the Black Tulip?
Hen spying on Miles from the bushes of the park! And possibly also the scene in the garden when Richard catches them.
Yes! The park scene is so much fun.
This is my favorite Pink book. Just love Hen and Miles! Hard to pick a favorite scene …. It would be when Richard finds them in the garden. I enjoyed Hen’s conversations with Vaughn too.
It’s hard to say, but when the encounter Lord and Lady Uppington at the end of the book is hilarious….
This book actually has my favorite line from the entire Pink series. I think I may have fallen out of my chair laughing when I read Miles’ rumination that “No one kept linen quite as fresh as Downey.”
Although, I’ve got to agree with Karen that the scene where Hen and the girls dress in green to spy on Miles from the shrubbery is fantastic.
I love the exciting scene at the end in the Black Tulip’s lair! All of the witty dialogue between Hen, Miles, the Black Tulip and Turnip is just a riot! Then when Vaughn joins in it is even better. Always laugh out loud funny to me.
I’ll also pick the scene when Hen, Charlotte and Pen spy on Miles in the park! I’m pretty sure the other people in the sub looked at me as if I was mad when they heard me laugh out loud! 🙂
I’m another fan of the action scene near the end of the book. Dangerous hair-implements, multiple “Jean-Luc”s, people crashing in (or sauntering in, in the case of Lord Vaughn) at interesting moments, and a really wonderful declaration of love at the end … who could ask for more?
I love the park scene and then “ditto” Yvette.
