Happy Friday, all!

It’s been a new book bonanza!  This week, true to my promise to read books that have come out this decade, I started out with Ashley Winstead’s This Book Will Bury Me, about a college student who falls down the rabbit hole of internet true crime sleuthing after grief over her father’s (natural) death sends her seeking for answers to questions, until her involvement in attempting to solve the murder of a group of sorority sisters at an Idaho college upends her life.  A thoughtful and compelling look at our culture’s fascination with true crime.

I went from a heroine who jumps into crime fora to a heroine who jumps (literally) into books with Meg Shaffer’s The Book Witch.  Have you ever dreamed of visiting a book?  Have you ever had a secret book boyfriend you wished you could turn from text to flesh?  Rainy March, rather like Jasper fforde’s Thursday Next, keeps fictional characters from going on the lam (back into that novel, Lizzie Bennet!) and prevents book saboteurs known as Burners from destroying the text– but her illicit relationship with the all too fictional Duke of Chicago threatens to see her expelled from her coven.  But there’s a secret in Rainy’s past that might change everything….

Third was the new Heather Fawcett, Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter.  I absolutely adored her Emily Wilde series (if you haven’t read Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Fairies yet, what are you waiting for?), so was very excited to get my hands on this new stand alone, set in an alternate Montreal where magic is real but dangerous and accessible only to a few.  The very practical and anti-magic Agnes is forced to rent a mysterious shop when her old cat shelter is collateral damage in a wizard duel– and finds herself unexpectedly tangled in the affairs of the most dread wizard of them all….
