Monday Give Away: THE PRISONER IN THE CASTLE
Happy October!
Who wants to go to a secluded Scottish castle– in which someone may be a murderer? For today’s Monday Give Away, I have… an ARC of Susan Elia MacNeal’s latest in her acclaimed Maggie Hope series, The Prisoner in the Castle.
Here’s the official blurb:
A series of baffling murders among a group of imprisoned agents threatens the outcome of World War II in this chilling mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of Mr. Churchill’s Secretary
.
World War II is raging, and former spy Maggie Hope knows too much.
She knows what the British government is willing to do to keep its secrets.
She knows the real location of the planned invasion of France.
She knows who’s lying. She knows who the double-crossers are. She knows exactly who is sending agents to their deaths.
These are the reasons Maggie is isolated on a remote Scottish island, in a prison known as Killoch Castle, out of contact with friends and family.
Then one of her fellow inmates drops dead in the middle of his after-dinner drink—and he’s only the first. As victims fall one by one, Maggie will have to call upon all her wits and skills to escape—not just certain death . . . but certain murder.
For what’s the most important thing Maggie Hope knows?
She must survive.
For a chance to win my ARC of The Prisoner in the Castle, here’s your question: do you have a favorite mystery series?
(I don’t think it will surprise anyone that I’m going with Lord Peter Wimsey here. Although there is some tough competition from various Elizabeth Peters characters….)
The winner will be announced on Wednesday.
I don’t read many mystery series, but have enjoyed a few of Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs books.
Me too, love Maisie!
I love Ruth Ware’s mysteries! Mysteries are my favorite type of books!
I love the Molly Murphy series by Rhys Bowen! History and a mystery–it doesn’t get better than that!
So many favorites but a toss-up between Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan series and Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series.
I would have to say I am a big Sue Grafton fan ! Love her Alphabet series. I am also a big fan of Mary Higgins Clark mystery books.
I love mysteries though I don’t concentrate on following a series. I read books as standalone and simply enjoy each one. Usually in a series, the previous history is covered enough that you’re out lost.
The Maggie Hope series is actually my favorite at the present time! I was actually just talking up the series to a patron at the library where I work (we were also talking about the Maisie Dobbs series too- I must start reading that). I also have a soft spot in my heart for The Inspector Lynley series as well.
Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody series!
Although, Laurie R. King’s Mary Russell series is a very close second.
I am obsessed with Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series.
I love the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. I read the entire series in 2 months. Then moved onto this series because I loved the first book and read it in a day.
I love the Amory and Milo Ames series by Ashley Weaver, the Charles Lenox series by Charles Finch, Alyssa Maxwell’s Gilded Newport and Lady and Lady’s Maid series, the Anna Lee Huber Lady Darby and Verity Kent series, Julianna Deering’s Drew Farthering mysteries, Daniella Bernett’s Emmeline Kirby and Gregory Langdon series, Jessica Ellicott’s Edwina and Beryl mysteries, and Elizabeth J. Duncan’s Penny Brannigan series. Hard to choose a favorite—they’re all wonderful!
Amelia Peabody – I can’t wait to read them all!
I love Agatha Christie and James Patterson. I love mysteries. They are my favorite to read and watch on TV. I have a British tv channel and watch those mysteries every day.
I love cozy mystery’s especially! The coffeehouse mystery series and just starting the library lovers mysteries!
Agent Pendergast by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
I love Sue Grafton’s book and John Grissom’s books.
A friend of mine passed Sharyn McCrumb’s Elizabeth MacPherson series around our Scottish dance group. I loved all the Scotland references (Because Scotland!) and that Elizabeth was never actually the person who solved the mystery. Someone always got there first.
Masie Dobbs but always looking for a new series
I like mysteries, but do not think I have read any since Nancy Drew. I know this is pitiful. I usually read historical fiction. I would love to win this.

I can’t pick just one favorite, but I like Stephanie Barron’s Jane Austen Mysteries (I never knew I wanted a mystery series with footnotes, but I DOOOO), Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series (a bit repetitive after a while, but it holds a special place in my heart because it’s a series that both my Dad and I read), and Rhys Bowen’s Her Royal Spyness series. Oh, and I also forgot about Lisa Lutz’s Spellman family series.
Sherlock Holmes, both in written form and portrayed on screen, is my favorite detective and mystery series.
